OpenAI Startup Fund & Arianna Huffington’s Thrive Global Create New Company, Thrive AI Health, To Launch Hyper-Personalized AI Health Coach

Published

openai-startup-fund-&-arianna-huffington’s-thrive-global-create-new-company,-thrive-ai-health,-to-launch-hyper-personalized-ai-health-coach

The OpenAI Startup Fund and Thrive Global announced today the creation of a new company, Thrive AI Health, exclusively devoted to building an AI health coach. The company’s mission is to use AI to democratize access to expert-level health coaching to improve health outcomes. This will also address growing health inequities by bringing the power of behavior change to the urgent challenge of chronic diseases.
The company will be funded by the OpenAI Startup Fund and Thrive Global as lead investors. The Alice L. Walton Foundation is a strategic investor in the new company, underscoring Thrive AI Health’s focus on health equity.
As Sam Altman and Arianna Huffington wrote in an op-ed in TIME, “So much of the conversation around AI has been about how much time it will save us and how productive it will make us. But AI could go well beyond efficiency and optimization to something much more fundamental: improving both our health spans and our lifespans. Because health is also what happens between doctor visits. In the same way the New Deal built out physical infrastructure to transform the country, AI will serve as part of the critical infrastructure of a much more effective health care system that supports everyday people’s health in an ongoing way. These are some of the ideas behind Thrive AI Health.”
DeCarlos Love, a product leader who was most recently at Google, will be CEO of the new company. At Google, he led sensors, AI & ML algorithms as well as health and fitness experiences across all devices and platforms, including Fitbit by Google Fitness, Pixel Watch and Wear OS. Prior to Google, Love held product roles at Apple and Athos. His passion and experience are further cemented from spending time as a coach for different sports as well as developing a childhood obesity program in his hometown of Minneapolis.
Thrive AI Health will use the power of generative AI to hyper-personalize and scale behavior change across the five key and interconnected daily behaviors that govern our health: sleep, food, fitness, stress management and connection. Given that behavior accounts for a significant share of health outcomes than medical care or our genes, by adopting healthier habits in these five behaviors, people can make dramatic improvements in health outcomes.
The Thrive AI Health Coach will be an essential tool for both prevention and for optimizing the treatment of disease through an AI personal context engine that understands the user and generates personalized AI-driven insights; proactive, multimodal, expert-level coaching as well as nudges and recommendations unique to each user across the five behaviors. They will all be powered by a unified health data platform with robust privacy and security guardrails to deliver a transformative health experience. The Thrive AI Health Coach will be trained on the latest peer-reviewed science, biometric, lab and other medical data, as well as users’ personal preferences and goals around the five key daily behaviors.
The new company will leverage resources from OpenAI and Thrive Global, including Thrive Global’s leading behavior change methodology, Microsteps and content library. Thrive AI Health will also take advantage of the latest developments in AI, including enhanced long-term memory capabilities and a custom-developed behavioral coaching model with domain-specific customization, to empower individuals to take action across these five daily behaviors and improve health outcomes.
“Recent advancements in artificial intelligence present an unprecedented opportunity to make behavior change much more powerful and sustainable,” said DeCarlos Love, Thrive AI Health CEO. “AI has shown a remarkable ability to assimilate large datasets, extract actionable insights, recognize patterns, and deliver personalized recommendations. However, despite these technological advances, the current landscape of large language models (LLMs) still falls short of delivering a truly comprehensive and effective personalized behavior change and coaching experience. Thrive AI Health Coach is the product to solve the limitations of current AI and LLM-based solutions by providing personalized, proactive, and data-driven coaching across the five daily behaviors. This is how it will improve health outcomes, reduce healthcare costs and significantly impact chronic diseases worldwide.”
“Through AI, we can make health and wellness opportunities more accessible for all,” says Alice Walton, founder of the Alice L. Walton Foundation, Heartland Whole Health Institute, and the Alice L. Walton School of Medicine. “Thrive AI Health offers the potential of increasing access to tools that can change behaviors and ultimately increase quality of life.”
The aim for the AI Health Coach is to finally reduce the trendlines on chronic diseases, which are skyrocketing around the world. In the U.S. alone, around 90% of our $4.1 trillion in healthcare spending — 17% of GDP, up from 5% in 1960 — is for the treatment of chronic and mental health conditions. A staggering 129 million Americans have at least one chronic condition, and in 2023, eight chronic conditions, including cardiovascular diseases, depression and diabetes, hit all-time highs. The status quo is unsustainable — a challenge that AI-driven hyper-personalized coaching is uniquely positioned to address.
Given that chronic diseases — like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases — are directly related to daily behaviors but not distributed equally across demographics, the Thrive AI Health Coach will leverage the power of AI to reach underserved communities. Dr. Gbenga Ogedegbe, Professor of Population Health & Medicine and Director, NYU Langone’s Institute for Excellence in Health Equity, will serve as Health Equity Advisor to Thrive AI Health.
Thrive AI Health has established research partnerships with leading academic institutions and medical centers which will include bringing the AI Health Coach to their communities. Stanford Medicine, the Alice L. Walton School of Medicine and the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute at West Virginia University are launch partners.
“Working together with Stanford Medicine and Thrive AI Health, we are excited to engage our faculty and future physicians to explore the use of AI Health Coach in ways that reflect our whole health approach,” said Dr. Sharmila Makhija, Founding Dean and CEO of the Alice L. Walton School of Medicine. “We strongly believe AI will positively change the future of health care, from medical education to clinical care, and we are committed to leveraging this technology to its full potential.”
“At Stanford Health Care, we are committed to delivering transformative digital experiences that enhance patient care, enable cutting-edge research, and help train tomorrow’s health leaders,” said Dr. Michael Pfeffer, Chief Information and Digital Officer for Stanford Health Care. “We are excited to explore the potential of AI Health Coach to advance these goals for the benefit of patients and providers alike.”
“For the last five years, the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute has partnered with Thrive Global, conducting clinical research studies involving over 3,000 participants linking our Human Operating System and AI-driven real time digital health insights with Thrive Global’s behavior change methodology, Microsteps and content,” said Dr. Ali Rezai, Director of the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute. “We are excited about this next stage collaboration with Thrive AI Health to accelerate the impact of personalized coaching to improve health, especially in rural America.”

ICEYE, the global leader in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite operations for Earth Observation, and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to further strengthen their cooperation in remote sensing of the Earth in the interest of Ukraine’s national security and defense.
The Memorandum of Cooperation builds on ICEYE’s unwavering support for the Government of Ukraine since 2022. In the Memorandum,  ICEYE continues to constantly ensure that the imagery captured pertinent to Ukraine’s territory is used in the interests of ensuring the security and defense of Ukraine in conditions of armed aggression and not shared in any circumstance with hostile countries or entities.
The Memorandum also outlines ICEYE’s and Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense partnering to strengthen Ukraine’s space defense capabilities even further and provide SAR expertise to support defense activities. The Memorandum focuses on advancing remote sensing technology, improving data use for security, and supporting Ukraine’s integration into the global space economy.
In August 2022, ICEYE announced signing a contract with the Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation to provide the Government of Ukraine with ICEYE’s SAR satellite imaging capabilities. As part of the agreement, one of ICEYE’s SAR satellites is designated for the Government of Ukraine’s use over the region. In addition, ICEYE provides access to its constellation of SAR satellites, allowing the Ukrainian Armed Forces to receive radar satellite imagery on critical locations with a high revisit frequency.
“Cooperation with ICEYE and the signing of the memorandum will enhance our intelligence work. I’m grateful to the company for its commitment to values and the Ukrainian people. I support the intention to limit space imaging over the territory of Ukraine. We must protect the country on land, in the air, at sea, and in space,” commented Deputy Minister of Defense Kateryna Chernohorenko on the signing of the memorandum.
Oleksandra Ustinova, Head of Ukraine’s Parliamentary Commission on Arms, commented: “I plead with all satellite companies to follow ICEYE’s lead in not selling imagery to Russia. ICEYE has been an important partner for Ukraine in providing satellite data responsibly. We are grateful that they are taking the technological lead within the industry to help protect Ukraine from Russian aggression. ICEYE’s modern technologies will be able to provide Ukraine with an advantage on the battlefield and far beyond enemy lines. I foresee this cooperation to strengthen with time and that together, we will engage in new defense space projects, directing Ukraine toward building a highly technological sovereign space capability.”
“ICEYE has been working closely with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine from Day 1 to support and help Ukraine in building space defense capabilities. In line with our vision to improve life on Earth by becoming the global source of truth in Earth Observation, we take pride in our efforts to provide objective, actionable data and technological support to Ukraine. The use of new, ground-breaking technology will continue to add significant value to the Government of Ukraine,” said Rafal Modrzewski, CEO and Co-founder of ICEYE.
“As an operator of highly advanced space capabilities and as a supplier of geospatial intelligence, we believe that we have a responsibility to prevent the misuse of our services against Ukraine,” continued Rafal Modrzewski, “We ask our peers to stand with us and Ukraine in this approach against unwarranted foreign aggression.”
Owning and operating the world’s largest SAR satellite constellation, ICEYE delivers proven and reliable Earth Observation data and solutions. At any given time, most of the Earth is covered in clouds or darkness. Unlike traditional Earth observation satellites, ICEYE’s small radar imaging satellites can form high-resolution images of areas of the Earth in daylight, at night, and through cloud cover. In other words, they can collect images and data from any part of the Earth multiple times a day, with the necessary reliability for critical decision-making.

Parents: Discover the Three Essential Pillars of Childcare for Your Child’s Optimal Development

parents:-discover-the-three-essential-pillars-of-childcare-for-your-child’s-optimal-development

Morinaga Milk is unveiling the three key pillars of childcare under its latest campaign: Potential-Attention-Nutrition. As a leading brand under Kalbe Nutritionals, Morinaga is launching this campaign to help 21st century parents meet the challenges of raising children amid rapid technological advancements and societal changes.
Studies show that many parents have not yet fully focused on the proper parenting approaches needed to recognize, develop, and support a child’s potential. In addition, nutritional needs are often overlooked, even though they can be easily met through nutritious daily meals and milk.
Three Key Pillars of Childcare for the Next Generation of Leaders
Children — including Generation Alpha born between 2010 and 2024, as defined by McCrindle Research — have significant potential to improve the world’s future, as they are projected to be the biggest and most technologically integrated generation to date. Growing up with online learning, the influx of social media information, and the rapid development of AI (Artificial Intelligence), these children share several characteristics:

Early mastery of technology
Digitally educated
Dependence on technology
Ability to multitask
Creativity in using social media
Different social interactions
Acceptance of diversity

Every parent wants their child to stand out and excel within their generation. However, without a proper understanding of their own parenting needs, parents cannot optimally support their child’s development. Prof. Dr. Roes Mini Agoes Salim M. Psi, a senior professor and psychologist commonly referred to as Bunda Romy, emphasizes the importance of the three key pillars of Potential-Attention-Nutrition. “For children to grow into multi-talented, global citizens with healthy intellectual, emotional, and spiritual intelligence, a synergy of the 3 pillars of parenting is needed; namely, Potential-Attention-Nutrition, which parents should apply to their children from an early age.”
To achieve healthy growth and development of children, it is important for parents to understand how to implement the three key pillars of Potential-Attention-Nutrition in a balanced manner. “The Potential pillar is about parents recognizing and optimizing their child’s innate abilities, such as learning modalities and multiple intelligences, which helps provide appropriate stimulation. Attention refers to caregiving patterns that allow children to grow healthily and holistically. The Nutrition pillar refers to meeting the right nutritional needs to support physical health and cognitive development,” explains Bunda Romy.
When parents do not start focusing on their child’s development from an early age, it can have dire consequences for the child’s future. Without attention to proper parenting, identifying potential, and meeting nutritional needs, children cannot grow optimally according to their interests, talents, and abilities. “It’s important for parents to effectively integrate these three pillars from an early age in a balanced way. So that children can grow well and ultimately be empowered to achieve their dreams,” says Bunda Romy.
In an educational seminar, the pediatrician Dr. Bernie Endyarni Medise, Sp.A(K), MPH, a specialist on child growth and development, urges that the three key pillars, Potential-Attention-Nutrition, be implemented from the first 1000 days of life, often referred to as the golden period of growth. This is the time when the brain and bodily organs develop the most rapidly, with approximately 86% of the brain’s neurons being formed, making it a critical time for behavioral and developmental progress. “This period is crucial because it sets the blueprint for a child’s growth, development, and behavior, affecting whether they will reach their full potential. Parents need to explore the child’s potential, give them the attention they need, and make sure their nutritional needs are met.”
Nutrition also plays a critical role during this period and should be balanced between carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals to support healthy physical growth, a robust immune system, and cognitive development. “Ideally, after the first year, 70% of a child’s nutritional needs should come from solid foods, while the remaining 30% can continue to be met through continued breastfeeding and/or formula feeding. This ensures that the child’s nutritional needs are met. Parents also need to provide appropriate stimulation to support optimal growth,” adds Dr. Bernie. During the first 1000 days, fetal brain growth is rapid, and by birth the brain contains approximately 100 billion neurons ready to form synaptic connections. Lack of nutrition and stimulation during this period can significantly slow brain development, which is linked to cognitive growth and future intelligence.
Choosing the right infant milk is critical to supporting brain intelligence, immunity, and optimal growth, says Dr. Muliaman Mansyur, Medical Head at Kalbe Nutritionals. “Parents can choose milk with high levels of AA and DHA, choline, and iron to support brain development; as well as alpha-lactalbumin that is rich in the amino acids tryptophan and cysteine to help regulate sleep and produce growth hormone for growing taller. In addition, milk fortified with Triple Bifidus probiotics supports digestive health and immunity and contains lactoferrin, which is clinically proven to increase resistance to respiratory and gastrointestinal infections in children.”
To support the implementation of the three key pillars of childcare, Kalbe Nutritionals meets the daily nutritional needs of children during their developmental stages with Morinaga ChilKid Platinum and ChilSchool Platinum growth milks. “We understand the critical role of nutrition as part of the three essential pillars of childcare. Now available with a new formula, Morinaga ChilKid Platinum and ChilSchool Platinum have advanced components that optimally support the development of multi-talented children during their golden years,” reveals Dr. Muliaman.
Morinaga ChilKid Platinum and ChilSchool Platinum contain superior ingredients that support brain development with Brain Care (high AA, DHA, Omega 3&6, Choline, Alpha-Lactalbumin, and Phospholipids), double immunity with Body Defense (Triple Bifidus, Vitamin A&C, Prebiotic GOS, and Lactoferrin) and optimal physical growth with Body Growth (Protein, Calcium, and Vitamin D) ingredients. “We also understand the importance of addressing the threat of diabetes or obesity in children. That is why Morinaga ChilKid Platinum and ChilSchool Platinum do not contain sugar or artificial sweeteners, addressing parents’ concerns about the dangers of sugar, which can lead to obesity or other metabolic disorders as children grow,” concludes Dr. Muliaman Mansyur.
Balancing the three pillars of childcare—Potential-Attention-Nutrition—and utilizing them from early on are crucial to ensuring that children thrive, develop optimally, and parents can support their Big Dreams, because #TimeCannotBeReversed.
