The Citadel releases report on generative artificial intelligence

The Citadel is preparing for the impact that AI — or artificial intelligence — will have on cadets, students, faculty and staff. A taskforce was created to develop a report on generative AI, which is used to create various types of new content. Members of the taskforce included professors, a cadet and graduate student as well as staff members from the Daniel Library and the Commandant’s Department.
While AI can offer users new ways to learn, teach and work, there are ethical and legal challenges to consider. This report is meant to ensure everyone understands AI’s full scope. The report includes definitions of AI terms, including both the text and image generation definitions, as well as capabilities and limitations for each. Also included in this report are potential impacts for The Citadel’s campus, academics, teaching and learning. The Citadel’s AI taskforce also outlined generative AI usage guidelines for multiple outlets on campus.
